Our thanks to Carolynn Black Stoops for the following description of the Supper:

Well, we had quite a lovely evening in the old little theater in the wee village of Ben Lomond, last evening, as we celebrated the 245th birthday of Robert Burns, that great Scottish Bard. The hosting organization was the Loch Lomond Celtic Society, and this is one of the Society's fundraisers supporting the Highland Games held the first weekend in October. It will be the Games 9th year of operation! The menu included a whiskey tasting before dinner, and the fare for supper was "Bangers and Mash". Neil Selkirk "addressed the Haggis", and dramatically read some of Burns' more popular poetic works. We were entertained by a local group called the "Cape Breton Toonz" fiddle group. They were made up of two Bohdrans, a fiddle, hammered dulcimer, harmonica, wooden spoons, and guitar. A grand musical tour de force of a cacophony of catchy Celtic sounds filled this small theater. The skirlin' of the highland pipes by Society Chieftain, Scott Pedan, was a welcomed sight, as the Haggis was proudly paraded around the room by Rhyli Esser, the Games' Administrative Assistant. The Games Marshall, Jane Simpson, gave the gathered assembly an updated report on the plans for the next game season. An "all-call " was made for volunteers to help support the 2004 Highland Games.

Our dining group of friends joining Robert and me (Clan Gregor and Clan MacDhu) included John and Donna Guenther (ClanMacMyst-Doggies), and Jay and Dale White (Clan Gregor). Our gentlemen folk looked dashing in their wonderful evening wear! We all raised several glasses in highland toasts to the Ladies, to the Gents, and to all others, and gathered together to sing the old tune-Auld Lang Syne.

So, "To a Red, Red Rose" the poem gently spent ... to all a good nite, and a mighty New Year to all the Ladies and Gents!
