The Living History Glen |
|
An exciting area of the Loch Lomond Highland Games is our Living History Glen! From the mundane to the extraordinary, all the aspects of life in a Celtic Clan are here for your enjoyment. Here are some highlights: The Highland Warriors perform battle shows (live steel) with claymores and basket hilt swords. Honoring their Celtic heritage, straight from the heart, they enact battles that transport you back to another time and place in the Scottish Highlands, when a man's rights were won by sheer bravery and the edge of his sword.
Crafts to watch or try your own hand included chain-maile, carding and spinning, knitting, wood carving, basket weaving, doll making, ink prints, embroidery, and runic necklaces. Gar's Rope Extravaganza is the place to find your balance (and lose it!) with the Tight Rope Challenge, Bog Balance, Jump Rope, Tug of War, and Rope Ring Toss. Harpers Hall is a whole bevy of harpers all in one place - a delight to listen to and they even let you strum a bit. A chapter of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen, their purpose is to promote an appreciation of the folk harp, to cultivate its living musical tradition, and to preserve the fun and magic of the harp for subscribers and the general public.
Demonstrations: Butter making, How on Earth Do I Put This Thing on? (Kilt wearing), Sticks and Other Pokey Things (Weaponry), Carding and Spinning, Ancient Celts, their Weapons and Tactics, A Woman's Work is Never Done If you or your group would like to participate in the Living History Glen, please send an email to: llcs95@lochlomondceltic.org
