Cead Mile Failte!
One Hundred Thousand Welcomes!
The Loch Lomond Celtic Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide educational opportunities to the general public and to stimulate an appreciation of the Celtic culture and its history in the San Lorenzo Valley. The Loch Lomond Celtic Society welcomes all who hold an interest in the heritage, culture, history, music and art of the Celtic nations: Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Isle of Man, Cornwall, and Galicia.
Through our fund-raising activities and the generous support of local businesses and individuals, the Society is able to provide educational opportunities and cultural enrichment, along with lending much needed support to other non-profit organizations in our community. Among our major educational and fundraising activities are the annual Loch Lomond Highland Games and Celtic Gathering and the annual Burns Night Supper. These are both exciting ways to educate and to share Celtic culture and traditions with the public. By means of grants, sponsorships and donations from local businesses, and our fundraisers held throughout the year, the Loch Lomond Celtic Society has been able to contribute to many local non-profit organizations supporting the San Lorenzo Valley. Charitable donations have been made to the Santa Cruz Community Music School, the Field of Dreams Program, Felton Community Hall, and the Clifford-Hoban branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (a traditional Irish Dance Group).
The Loch Lomond Celtic Society originated in 1995 and took, as its first major project, the return of the Loch Lomond Highland Games (which had been defunct for a number of years). After overcoming all the obstacles of reinventing the wheel, so to speak, the 1996 Games went off virtually without a hitch. Since then the Games have continued successfully on the first weekend of October each year.
In 1996, proceeds of the Charter Membership drive were used to create a fund available to San Lorenzo and Scotts Valley charitable organizations for community-based projects. Additionally, 1996 Charter Members received a sterling silver lapel pin crafted by Garth Duncan of Duncan House, a local jeweler and bladesmith. A Founding Member, President of the LLCS and Chief of the Loch Lomond Highland Games for 4 years, Garth is now living in Scotland where he continues his work of preserving the arts of traditional Celtic craftsmanship.
Our Membership drive last year was a vigorous one, but there's always room for more!
